Rev. Dr. Alonzo B. Taylor was born and raised in Bluffton, Georgia. After finishing high school, he relocated to Atlanta, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Morris Brown College in 2002. While an undergraduate, he taught elementary music and served as a United States Marine Reservist. He was discharged from the Marines in 2003 and enlisted in the United States Army Reserve in 2004.
In August 2009, Pastor Taylor received his call to ministry. He was commissioned as a Chaplain Candidate in the Army Reserves in January 2010 and served as the worship coordinator for the 3rd Medical Command’s Unit Ministry Team under Chaplain Alan Pomaville. Seeking to further discern his vocation, he resigned his commission in November 2011.
Following his military service, Pastor Taylor served in numerous churches across the metro Atlanta area as a Minister of Music. He also served as a supply minister at St. Mark Lutheran Church and Peace Lutheran Church. In 2019, he was installed as Assistant Pastor of CrossRoad Christian Church under the direction of Bishop Irvine Bryer. In 2022, he took a sabbatical from CrossRoad Christian Church to pursue a Doctor of Music Education. In March 2026, he was selected as the pastor of CrossRoad Christian Church.
Dr. Taylor has earned multiple degrees: a B.S. in Music Education from Morris Brown College (Atlanta, GA); a Master of Arts in Teaching from Grand Canyon University (Phoenix, AZ); a Master’s in Biblical Counseling and a Master of Divinity, both from Luther Rice Seminary (Lithonia, GA); and a Doctor of Music Education from Liberty University (Lynchburg, VA).
He and his wife, Zipporah, have been married for more than 20 years and are the parents of three sons: John, Micah, and Timothy.
